The African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) is accepting submissions for the $20,000 Matla Grants Program to support delivery of essential services to women, girls and gender-diverse persons experiencing violence, backlash and/or discrimination in French-speaking Africa.

“Matla” is a Sesotho word that means “strength” or “power”, symbolising empowerment and resilience.

Funding Information
- Applicants can apply for between USD 15,000 – USD 20,000 for a year for a maximum of two years (USD 30,000 – USD 40,000 for two years).
Eligibility:
- Organisations and groups led by African women, girls and gender-diviverse persons that provide essential services such as shelter, psychosocial and legal services to women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals facing violence, backlash, and various forms of abuse and discrimination.
- Emerging and small registered and unregistered groups can apply.
- This grant is open to applicants from all French-speaking countries in Africa.
